When we heard about viral psyllium jellies made solely from 100% fruit juice and psyllium, of course we had to go all in, experimenting with each of our potent, sustainably-sourced psyllium products. The results were nothing short of wondrous, easy, economical, nutritious, and delicious. Plus, while making the jellies takes merely minutes, it’s enough to bring out your inner child and kitchen scientist with glee.
Simple Fiber Boost
We all know how important fiber is for health. Passing through the digestive system without breaking down into sugar, fiber helps to support fullness, blood sugar management, healthy cholesterol levels in an already normal range, and overall health enormously.* Unfortunately, fewer than one in ten U.S. adults meet their daily recommendations. That said, when it comes to optimizing fiber intake, we’ve got a stalwart ally at hand: our digestive system’s bestie, psyllium.*
What is Psyllium?
Derived from the seed of the plantago ovata plant, psyllium offers an easy, versatile opportunity to incorporate more fiber in the day-to-day. Naturally gluten-free, water soluble, keto-friendly, and plant-based, psyllium has been used for centuries in India to support digestion and gut health.* In addition to being a gentle laxative, psyllium is a natural prebiotic, helping to promote a healthy microbiome.* Additionally, our ORGANIC INDIA Psyllium products, including Psyllium Powder, Psyllium Pre & Probiotic Fiber products, and Whole Husk Psyllium, are sourced from small scale farmers dedicated to regenerative farming practices.
Making Fruit Juice Psyllium Jelly
The name says it all, fruit juice and psyllium are all you need for this endlessly customizable jelly! We’ve seen a range of ratios floating around between the two ingredients. Of course, we tried them all, and with success!
Psyllium-to-Fruit-Juice Ratio
The truth is, your best quantities of psyllium to liquid depend on your particular fiber goals and the consistency that appeals to you in the moment. For instance, a teaspoon of our ORGANIC INDIA Psyllium Powder mixed in 150 milliliters of fruit juice will yield a soft texture a bit like smooth applesauce after a few minutes.
In contrast, one and a half to two tablespoons powder will produce a firmer gel almost instantly. Consider starting with a lower amount and gradually adding more. Note, as you let the mixture set, it will continue to firm up for some time. If you find you end up with a much more solid concoction than you anticipated, no worries. You can add fruit juice or even water to thin it out, though you will likely want to use a fork to break up the gel, holding the jar over the sink as you incorporate it.
We found our ORGANIC INDIA Psyllium powders yielded the smoothest jellies the most quickly. That said, our ORGANIC INDIA Whole Husk Psyllium also came up with lovely results. The jelly is a little bit more textured, but pleasant; it also tended to produce clearer colors. With Whole Husk Psyllium, you want to use the highest suggested quantity, since it’s much less concentrated by volume.
Mix-and-Match
Experimenting with different fruit juices and ORGANIC INDIA Psyllium products is fun! We are partial to naturally lower sugar juices with unique benefits and flavors, such as tart cherry, pomegranate, and cranberry. A clear favorite so far is Tart Cherry juice mixed with our ORGANIC INDIA Cinnamon Spice Psyllium Pre & Probiotic Fiber, but there haven’t yet been any duds. Who knew optimizing your fiber intake could be so simply delightful?

Important Notes:
- Do not exceed psyllium dosage limits in a single serving of your Psyllium Jelly. For Psyllium powder, daily dose is 1 tsp per person. For Psyllium whole husk, daily dose is 1 tbsp per person.
- When consuming psyllium jelly, be sure to immediately follow up with 10 oz or more of water. Psyllium requires water to properly pass through the digestive tract.
